A brief timeline of Takamine's history.

1962
A small family business located at the base of Takamine mountain, starts making fine, handcrafted acoustic guitars.
1968
Mr Mass Hirade joins the company heading up design and production, and shortly thereafter, introduces the first Takamine world-class ‘Classical’ guitar.
1975
The company begins overseas trading as a result of Takamine’s rapidly growing reputation.
1978
Takamine introduces its eagerly anticipated acoustic-electric guitars featuring the stunning new palathetic pickups.
1986
The first Natural Series guitar is launched and receives plaudits the world over.
1987
Takamine introduces its first Limited Edition model to celebrate 25 years of master luthiery.
1988
The Takamine Parametric EQ preamp is launched and immediately becomes the standard by which others are judged.
1989
Takamine develop the replaceable preamp package system featuring the innovative external battery box.
1994
Takamine pioneer the use of lasers to enable stunningly intricate and precise inlays.
2004
Launch of the revolutionary CoolTube preamp, providing the warmest amplified acoustic tones yet.
Nestled at the base of Takamine Mountain in Sakashita, Japan, Takamine Guitars have over 40 years of history dedicated to innovation and improvement to the art and craft of guitarmaking. What first began as a small family business has evolved into one of the leading guitar manufacturers In the world, depended upon by some of the best players and biggest names in the music industry.

So what's the deal? Why are there so many Takamine players? We'd like to think that it's because we've earned your respect. Takamine has made technological advancements that have surpassed other guitar makers. Takamine prides itself in their dedication and loyalty to fine luthiership and it is shown through each Instrument the company makes.

Takamine had its early beginnings while guitar playing and music was gaining popularity in Japan during the early 60's. As their business grew they saw the need to develop their skills and attract design and manufacturing talent. One of the most important additions to the company was one Mr. Mass Hirade.

Hirade joined Takamine in 1968, and made great improvements upon design and build quality, and set forth with his staff to energize and strengthen the business. The factory began producing their world class "Classical" that to this day still carry the Hirade name. Through Hirade's dedication and commitment to Takamine, he was able to begin an overseas trading business in 1975. Takamine Guitars were able to reach out to guitar players around the world. Takamine was finally placed in the hands of musicians who had only heard about their great sound and fine craftsmanship.

Electro-acoustic. In 1978, Takamine began to introduce acoustic/electric guitars into the marketplace. Takamine acoustic/electric guitars grew to be a leading force in the flat back guitar market. The good word about Takamine was being spread, and musicians worldwide couldn't wait to get their hands on one.

Innovation. Takamine made great advancements with their palethetic pickup, and set the standard for the industry. Other manufacturers soon offered acoustic/electric models, but none has reached the level of sophistication and performance set by Takamine. Our Takamine pickup is like no other. It's an integral part of the guitar's design, not a retrofit like most other "factory" systems. Six individual piezo transducers are embedded in the bridge plate where they sense both string and soundboard vibration. Takamine also pioneered the slider control preamp style for the acoustic/electric guitar. No other guitar company had the technological advancements that Takamine set in place, and to this day no other guitar company can achieve that level of quality in the market.
