FAQs
How is Takamine pronounced and what does it mean?
If you spell Takamine phonetically it is pronounced ‘Taka-meen-nay’. The word Takamine comes from the ‘Takamine’ mountains, which over look the factory in Japan.
What is the warranty period of my guitar?
The warranty period is 12 months from the date of purchase.
What do I do if I want to make a warranty claim?
Any warranty claims should be arranged through the Takamine dealer from whom the guitar was purchased. Your Takamine dealer will arrange for your guitar to be returned to us (Korg UK Ltd, UK Takamine distributors) and inspected by our (Korg UK) guitar technicians. Every effort will be made to ensure the fastest possible repair time. A warranty claim cannot be considered or accepted until our (Korg UK) guitar technicians have first inspected the product.
- Damage from physical abuse such as dropping the guitar.
- Damage due to liquid contamination.
- Damage resulting from any use other than the purpose it was intended for.
- Any guitar that has been repaired or had an attempted repair made to it by unauthorised personnel.
- Damage due to incorrect connection or connection to faulty equipment.
- Damage in transit as a result of inadequate packaging or protection.
- Damage to packaging including instrument/flight cases.
- Damage to wood through misuse and/or fingernail or pick damage.
What do I do if my guitar is out of its warranty period?
If your guitar is outside the 12-month warranty period, please contact your nearest Takamine dealer. If the dealer employs the services of a technician, then the necessary repair work may be undertaken by the dealer locally. If the dealer has no suitable repair facilities or if you require the work to be carried out by authorised guitar technicians, the dealer will arrange for the guitar to be returned to Korg UK’s technicians for inspection. If required, a quotation is available prior to any work commencing. A carriage charge both to and from Korg UK will be added to any quotation.
If goods are returned without prior written authorisation, an administration charge may be raised. All quotations and subsequent charges are subject to VAT at the current rate.
What if my place of purchase has closed down?
Use our website’s search facility to find a local Takamine. Then contact them with a copy of your sales receipt and request a warranty evaluation.
How long does a warranty evaluation take?
The dealer must contact Korg UK to arrange the return of the product. Once in the possession of Korg UK the evaluation normally takes between 7-10 working days. However this time span may be subject to variation at certain times of the year so please confirm this before returning your guitar.
What happens after the evaluation?
The technicians will determine whether the guitar is repairable and whether the repair is covered by the warranty. If this is the case the work will be completed and the guitar will then be returned to the dealer.
What happens if my guitar is not repairable whilst under warranty?
Korg UK will endeavour to replace the guitar with another one of equal value. In the case of a discontinued model, the guitar will be replaced with one of equal or more value.
Is my warranty transferable?
No. The warranty is only applicable to the original purchaser.
How can I get parts for my guitar?
This can be done by contacting your nearest dealer who should be happy to help. If you do not know who your nearest dealer is please refer to our dealer list which will help.
If I have an older guitar, am I able to upgrade my preamp?
See the
preamps section on our website
to see available preamps, and upgrade possibilities.
How can I find out how old my guitar is?
If you have a Japanese built Takamine, you can tell the year of manufacture by the first two digits of the serial number, i.e. s/n 9234075 = year of manufacture is 1992.
How much is my guitar worth?
Neither Takamine Guitars or Korg UK deal in ‘used’ or ‘second-hand’ guitars,
so therefore we cannot enter in to any valuation discussions. Your best source
is your local Takamine dealer who is knowledgeable about our products. Please
use the 'Dealer Locator' facility on the website to find your local Takamine
dealer.

that are suitable both in design and price for the UK market. The USA and other
countries throughout the world use exactly the same process and will not stock
every model. A UK and Ireland brochure is available to download from our site
